Bohol, Philippines 2025- Day 2: Patient Screenings and Preparation

Day two began bright and early with breakfast at the hotel and by 7:30 am, we were on our way to the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center. Our first task was to unload all the medical supplies we’d brought, ensuring everything was organized and ready for the week ahead. We met with the hospital staff for a debriefing on the upcoming cases. The total number of patients we will be assisting this week is 62! The range of procedures spans OBGYN, thyroid, gallbladder, hemorrhoids, hernia, and cysts.

By 9:00 am, the screening process was in full swing. Our doctors began evaluating each patient, carefully determining how we could best provide care and support. It was inspiring to witness their dedication and compassion firsthand. After her screening, one woman was kind enough to bring our team some homemade steamed rice cakes, which the team thoroughly enjoyed. By noon, all 62 patients had been screened, and the surgery/procedure schedule for the week was finalized.

After a busy morning at the hospital, our team had a few hours to relax and recharge before heading to the home of our mission coordinator (Cora) sister’s beautiful home. We were welcomed with open arms and an absolutely incredible spread of authentic Filipino food. We savored every bite and enjoyed the warm company, a much-appreciated moment after a long morning.

After dinner, we returned to the Bohol Tropics Resort. The evening was dedicated to final preparations for tomorrow – the first day of procedures and surgeries. We reviewed schedules and mentally prepared for the important work ahead. Tomorrow, we put our planning into action, and we’re ready to make a difference in the lives of the patients we met today.
